Very few people immediately pick up the phone to call a plumber when a clogged drain “happens.”  Most of us are far more inclined to try fixing it ourselves, especially since most clogged drains can be cleared pretty quickly and with minimum effort.

So the question isn’t really “if” you should try it on your own, but how to go about it.  At Burton, and as the first designated Green Plumber in Nebraska and Iowa, we recommend using natural drain cleaning solutions to protect your plumbing and, of course, the environment.

Supermarket drain cleaning liquids are chemically based and, after repeated use, those harsh chemicals can damage and corrode the inside of your pipes.

Instead, we recommend the following “home grown” methods.  They’re safe and effective, and all you need are a couple of readily available ingredients on hand so you can react quickly when a problem occurs.

  • At the first sign of a clogged sink drain, grab your plunger, place it squarely over the drain so it’s completed covered, and give it several pumps at a time before checking on your progress. If the drain is still clogged after the first go-around, try it at least a few more times before moving on to Plan B.
  • Here’s another effective solution:  Pour a half cup of baking soda down the drain, and then a half cup of white vinegar.  If you have the time and the patience, cover the drain and let that mixture sit for about 3 hours, then check to see if it worked.
  • If you’re fresh out of baking soda and vinegar, then pour a half cup of salt followed by a tea kettle full of boiling water down the drain.  If that doesn’t work, try more hot water, but not any more salt.
  • Instead of waiting for trouble to occur, contact Burton to order a supply of two very effective products:  Bio-Clean and Root-X.  Both are organic and environmentally friendly products not available in retail stores.  Bio-Clean can clear even a stubborn clog helps prevent them with monthly treatments.  Root-X is also a preventive and post-clog remedy designed to kill tree and shrubbery roots that have infiltrated your sewer line without harming the plants themselves.

If the clog is serious enough and no home remedies prove effective, then contact Burton for fast response and 100% guaranteed results.  We can clear even the toughest of clogged drains anywhere in your home.  We also can repair and replace drain and sewer lines.  If the problem is outdoors, our trenchless technology will avoid any damage to your property and expensive repairs to your lawn, driveway, or sidewalks.

Have a clogged drain problem that just won’t quit?  Then contact Burton today, and consider the problem solved.
