Have you ever lost jewelry down the drain? Panic can set in quickly, especially if the item is valuable! Don’t worry! You may be able to retrieve the jewelry yourself. Before you call a plumber, take a deep breath and read on for helpful tips on how to retrieve lost jewelry from the drain!
Step 1: Turn off the water and consider shutting off the valve to prevent the jewelry from potentially traveling into the sewer. Next, locate the pipes below the sink and identify the P-Trap. This is the ‘u’ shaped area of the pipe.
Step 2: Before removing a portion from the pipes, be sure to place a bucket directly beneath the P-Trap. Loosen the two slip nuts on either side of the P-Trap and slowly lower the trap. Drain any water into the bucket. If your jewelry hasn’t been washed away by water, this is where it likely can be found.
Step 3: While you’re down there, clean the pipes before fitting it back on. This can allow for better drainage (a huge tip)! Before removing the bucket, turn the water back on and check for any leaks.
If everything works, you’re good to go! Just remember to keep your jewelry and other valuables away from the sink!
