When you’re warm enough or cool enough inside your home, you don’t even give your HVAC systems a second thought. You know, “don’t fix what isn’t broken.” Well, “fixing” isn’t the only thing heating and cooling system need from time to time. In fact, you can prevent a whole lot of fixing with annual system maintenance.
We’ll come back to that point at the end of this blog. In the meantime, here’s something else to consider. You want your heating system (as one example) to last as long as possible, right? Of course you do. Here are several additional ways to accomplish that goal:
- Add another zone or two. If you have just one thermostat, you are most certainly working your heating system harder than you need to. Add one or more zones so you can adequately heat the rooms currently occupied and save money plus wear and tear on your furnace elsewhere.
- Replace your current thermostats with programmable models so you can further regulate temperatures to coincide with your family’s schedule, one zone at a time.
- If your home is excessively dry during the winter, a whole-house humidifier can remedy the problem. Among the other benefits it provides, it will enable you to feel just as warm as you like at a lower temperature setting. Once again, that saves you money and reduces system wear and tear.
- Clean or replace your furnace filter regularly. If the filter is dirty and blocked, your furnace will work extra hard to provide the amount of heat you desire.
